Art is a form of communication that presents an infinite number of possibilities. In this workshop we chose embroidery as the main technique of expression and we sought to express feelings, stories and metaphors through threads that can be reinterpreted and that help develop a feeling of connection and contribution to the community and a deep communication that is necessary for human beings. The creation of something with meaning can help participants to reinterpret their experiences in order to achieve a greater understanding of themselves and the context in which they live.
In the workshop “Embroidering Stories” we seek to enable women to tell their joys, their pains, their fears, their stories through embroidery. Embroidery connects them with a heritage from a whole generation of women who have told their lives through thread and needle for many generations.
We want the needle to form a letter, a name, a drawing and a story that must be told, that must be taken into account, a story with a lot to say, when it passes through the fabric, stitch after stitch.
Talking about embroidery in Mexico also means talking about customs, cultural diversity, languages and of course art. Mexico is home to many natural treasures that have served as inspiration for many artisans. Walking through the streets of any state in the Republic, you can perceive the artistic wealth that its inhabitants, buildings and murals that accompany the walk of people, host. Embroidery in Mexico is made with the heart, passion, and a deep love because stories are captured in it that give it a unique meaning and make its value stand out.
The story of every woman is made up of many stories; stories that speak of deprivation, violence, injustice and fear; but also stories that speak of love, forgiveness, courage and friendship. Through the workshop we seek to help women integrate the different stories that make them up, making all of them into one story: that of their life.
